Shiatsu is an ancient form of massage from Japan that is sometimes referred to as acupressure. Shiatsu involves massaging along the body’s meridians, or energy channels to help ease aches, pains, tension, fatigue, and symptoms of disease. The meridians, which pass through the skin and muscles, also innervate and supply energy to the internal organs. This is why shiatsu, which works on maintaining and restoring energy flow through the meridians, positively impacts many aspects of health.
Sessions are typically done with the client fully clothed, wearing comfortable clothes that enable the client to be stretched (no denim pants please). There are 2 types of sessions that are offered, short-form and long-form. Short form shiatsu is wonderful and lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes, generally covering the whole body unless a specific area of focused attention is indicated. The long form shiatsu is 2 ½ hours and as you may imagine, is very thorough. In the long-form, the entire body receives shiatsu and profound passive stretching (I put you into stretches to open up your body, you do not need to do any work) that is luxurious and extremely beneficial.
Each session is tailored to the client’s needs and individual limitations. Clients typically report a deep sense of relaxation coupled with increased energy and vitality following sessions.
